Too hot in summer, too cold in winter, and loud enough in heavy rain that you cannot hear the television. The frames and glazing are rarely the problem. It is almost always the roof. A replacement roof fixes it. A warm roof is a fully insulated solid roof, usually tiled, which holds heat in winter and keeps the sun out in summer, and cuts the noise considerably. It turns the space into a room you use rather than one you walk through. If you would rather keep the light, a modern glass roof or a hybrid arrangement with insulated sections and a glazed lantern gives you most of the comfort without losing the sky. Replacement polycarbonate is the cheapest route and the right answer on some conservatories, and we will tell you when it is. Worth knowing two things. First, a solid roof is heavier than what it replaces, so the existing frame and base need checking before anything is ordered, and depending on the work it may need Building Regulations approval. We deal with that. Second, be wary of anyone offering to clad over your existing roof rather than replace it. It is cheaper and it looks similar in a photograph, but it is a cosmetic job rather than a proper insulated roof, and it can trap moisture in the structure underneath.
