That guarantee is only worth something if the company behind it still exists, which is why it's backed by insurance. An insurance-backed guarantee, usually shortened to IBG, is not a guarantee in itself. It's an insurance policy sitting behind ours. If Mullion & Co stopped trading and something later went wrong with your installation that our guarantee would have covered, you'd claim against the insurer instead of against us. It's the sort of thing you hope never gets used. It's also the reason you can take a guarantee from a small firm seriously. ### What it covers The policy covers the obligations under our own guarantee, in the event that we're no longer trading. It doesn't replace the guarantee, and it isn't a separate warranty with different terms. If we're still here, you ring us and we sort it out. That's always the first route. ### How a claim would work You'd contact the insurer directly rather than us, since by definition we wouldn't be there. Your policy documents carry the details and the claims process. ### Keep the paperwork After the job, you should end up holding three things: your guarantee, your insurance-backed guarantee policy, and your Building Regulations certificate. Put all three somewhere sensible with the deeds. Years later, when you're selling, they're the documents a solicitor asks for. If you've mislaid any of them, ring us and we'll help you get copies.
