Planning rules around conservation areas can be confusing, and getting them wrong can mean delays or a refused application. We're experienced in supporting homeowners through the complexities of planning restrictions, so you don't have to work it out on your own.
If you live in or near a conservation area and your project needs planning permission, we offer a free planning support service.
For most window and door replacements, no. It's normally permitted development. Three things change that:
This removes those rights, even for identical replacements.
This needs listed building consent for any window work.
These almost always need an application.
Changing the material, style or glazing pattern can also trigger it. If you live in a conservation area, you can usually still go ahead, but the specification matters much more, and the council decides.

We tell you what's likely to be accepted for your house and street, before you've committed to anything.
We put together the forms, drawings and supporting details the council needs, then send it all in for you.
Questions, correspondence and conservation officers. You don't have to chase.
You'll know where things stand, and who to ring.
Where the council charges an application fee, that is paid directly to the council. Our support is free.
The council makes the decision, not us, and nobody can promise one. What we can do is give your application the best chance, by recommending something that suits your house and the street it sits on.
Call or send us a message.
We find out what applies to your house and what we'd recommend.
We prepare it, submit it and deal with the council.
Then the same person surveys, fits and signs the job off with you.
Yes. There's no charge for our help with the application. If the council charges an application fee, you pay that directly to the council.
Your council lists conservation areas and Article 4 directions on its planning pages. Or give us your address and we'll check for you.
It's a council direction that removes permitted development rights, so even an identical replacement can need an application. Don't go by what neighbours have done. They may have replaced theirs before the direction came in.
Where permission is needed, councils often won't accept standard uPVC on a front elevation. A flush profile is often easier to get approved, and we'll tell you early if the council is likely to want something different.
We'll talk through the council's reasons and what could change, and tell you honestly what we think the next step should be.
Tell us about the house and we'll come and look at it with you. We bring samples, talk through what suits it, and leave you to think. No charge, no pressure, and no chasing calls.
